ORLANDO, Fla. - On Saturday Aug. 14, more than 200 children from Orlando's Washington Shores Community are expected to attend the Southside Church of Christ's Back-to-School Giveaway at 4701 Raleigh St. in Orlando, hosted by Community of One, Inc.
The giveaway, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., will provide local school-aged kids with free back packs, school supplies, haircuts and healthcare information, while bikes and computers will also be given away.
Free hot dogs, cotton candy, chips, cookies, a DJ and a moon bounce, highlight this year's giveaway - the fifth-consecutive year the Church has hosted such an event.
Orlando Magic executive Lucas Boyce, recently named to the Orlando Business Journal'sTop 40 Business People Under 40, will deliver his keynote address, "Built For Something More," to the kids in attendance at noon. Born premature to a 19-year-old single, drug- and alcohol-addicted mother, Boyce, 31, has crushed countless obstacles to graduate Cum Laude from college, work at the White House, fly aboard Air Force One and now, serve as an executive with the Orlando Magic.
The event is FREE and open to all.
